Turning emotional intelligence into action = emotional integrity

I often think about Emotional Intelligence, particularly its significant role in my life, and most importantly, where I can further develop it :)

"Are you going to take a swing at their nonsense, or will you take an extra moment?" This is a key question I ask myself when I feel compelled to react to someone or something. I must remember, there's a significant difference between responding and reacting.

Why EQ is so important:

  • According to Daniel Goleman, the author of 'Working with Emotional Intelligence', people who display emotional integrity make 40% more money over their lifetime.

  • Emotional integrity is twice as important as IQ in determining success. Nothing you learn means anything if you can’t connect with people.

  • Fortunately, you can develop your EQ, and it becomes easier as you strengthen that muscle through practice.

Here's what you and I can do today:

  • Solicit feedback from the people who are closest to you. Use this feedback and put it into action.

  • Be aware of your reactions (take a couple of extra breaths before you respond, and reflect on these moments in your day).

To quote Peter Stark, 'Emotional intelligence is when you finally realize it's not all about you.' - DVG"

If you know anyone that could benefit from reading this, pay it forward. If you want to keep it to yourself because growth is personal, that's cool too.

More tomorrow :)

Best,
